Create an Embedded Content Static Object

The Embedded Static Object is your secret weapon for integrating your tools and processes into the oVice Workspace. Embed any linkable external content, such as Google Docs, design tools, etc., to improve collaboration and make resources conveniently accessible to your users.

Access your Static Objects Manager

Access the Static Object Manager in the Space Settings Menu:  Space Settings > Setting > Static Object in the Main (Hamburger) Menu.

Build an Embedded Content Static Object

Embedded Object Static Objects are built in 2 stages:

  1. Create the Object in the Static Object Manager
  2. Add the Content Link from the new Object in the Workspace

Set Type

Choose the Other > Embedded Object  Static Object type from the horizontal menu bar. The default first option in the Static Object Builder is the Bulletin. Click Other in the menu and choose Embedded Object from the drop-down menu.

Note: all changes can be previewed before saving in the Preview Window at right.

Set User Authority

Choose the User Authority for this Embedded Content Static Object. Some Static Objects may be given a unique user Authority: choose the user role that may interact with each Static Object from the Select Authority drop-down menu.

For an Embedded Content Static Object, a user given Authority will have the option to not only see the content, but also to edit the content right from the open workspace. Choose Admin as the Authority option, for example, and all users in the space may view the linked content, but only Admins can also edit the content link.

Set the Location

Finalize the placement of the Embedded Object. By default, it will be placed in the workspace near the current location of your Avatar. In the Preview window, you may drag and drop where desired.

Alternately, you may set the location based on a specific location in the space's grid. This is helpful if aligning with other Static Objects in the space. Adjust the numbers in the X and Y axis fields to reposition where needed.

Save Your Work

Don't forget to click the Save button to make your Object live in the space

Add the Content Link to the Embedded Content Static Object

Once the Embedded Content Static Object has been saved, return to the workspace to complete the setup.

  1. From the workspace, move your avatar within range of the Embedded Content Static Object to open the Sub-Canvas Window.
  2. Click on the Embed Icon to connect to the Object, and the window will present a URL field.
  3. Enter the URL in the field provided.
  4. Click the Load button, and your content should appear within the frame.

Set the Range of the Embedded Content Static Object

Choose how far the reach of the Object extends by setting the range. Any workspace user's Avatar that comes within the set range will experience the Object's Sub-Canvas Window opening and will be shown the content.

Within the Object's Sub-Canvas, click on the numerical drop-down to adjust the range (indicated by the Object's surrounding gray circle).

Editing Your Embedded Content Static Object

You can view your new Embedded Content Static Object in the Static Objects table, located just below the builder. Edit or Disable/Enable as needed.

Admins or users with assigned Authority may also edit the content link in the workspace (see below).

What the User Experiences in the Space

All users in the workspace will be able to view the embedded content once within range of the Object. The Object's Sub-Canvas Window will automatically open on their screen, and they will be shown the linked content. In addition to the typical Sub-Canvas Window options of minimizing/maximizing, re-sizing, and re-positioning, users also have the option to view the linked content in a new tab.

Member/Visitor/Guest Experience

Because the User Authority is set to Admin, any user with Member, Visitor, or Guest user roles will only be able to view and interact with the contents of the Embedded Content Static Object in the space.

Admin Experience

Because the User Authority in this example is set to Admin, for Admins in the space, the window does provide Editor access to update the content when clicked from the open workspace.  When an Admin is within range, they may connect to the Object, edit the link, and clock Load to update.
