Breakout lets you split the participants of a meeting room or meeting object into groups and move each group to a separate meeting room or meeting object. After group work or discussions, you can bring everyone back to the original location.
Breakout is available on all plans. Only the host of the meeting room or meeting can start a breakout.
Room Host Role
Start a Breakout
1. Enter a meeting room or connect to a meeting object
2. Click "+" on the control toolbar
3. Under "Tools", click "Breakout"
The breakout canvas opens.
Set Up the Breakout
1. Add destinations
Click "Add available rooms or meeting objects" and select where participants will move. A group is created for each selected meeting room or meeting object.
Only available (empty) meeting rooms and meeting objects can be selected. Locked or in-use rooms and objects show the reason and cannot be selected.
You can filter the list by "All", "Available rooms", "All rooms", "Available objects", and "All objects".
2. Assign participants to groups
Select an "Assignment mode".
| Assignment mode | Description |
| Random | Click "Assign randomly" to assign all participants to groups at random |
| Manual | The host assigns participants to groups one by one |
| Hybrid | Assign some participants manually, then click "Assign randomly" to assign the rest at random |
In the preview, you can use "Assign randomly" and "Reset" (clear all assignments), and add or remove participants.
Use "Search by Participants" to find the group a specific participant is in.
If any participants are unassigned, the number of unassigned participants is shown.
3. Set a timer (optional)
Enter a time (in minutes) in "Timer" to automatically bring participants back to the original location when the time is up. If you leave it blank, the breakout continues until the host recalls everyone (up to 24 hours).
Run the Breakout
Click "Start breakout". After a countdown, participants automatically move to their group's destination.
While a breakout is in progress, an in-progress icon appears on the control toolbar. If you set a timer, the remaining time is shown.
The host can open the breakout canvas from the in-progress icon (you must be in a meeting room or connected to an object).
If you set a timer, participants are notified one minute before the end and again just before it ends.
End the Breakout
Recall everyone
Click "Recall everyone" on the breakout canvas to bring all participants back to the original location. You can recall everyone at any time, regardless of the timer.
Close without recalling
Click "×" at the top of the canvas to end the breakout without recalling participants. Participants stay where they are and do not return to the original location automatically.
Tips
Multiple breakouts can run at the same time in one space. Each user can take part in only one breakout at a time.
If "Breakout" does not appear or cannot be selected, check that you have the host role and that you are in a meeting room (or connected to a meeting object).
