Let everyone in your space know what you're up to with a short message in a speech bubble. Share what you're working on or where you'll be, ask for a review or a hand with something, or flag when you need help right away, and pick a bubble color to match. You can also notify specific people or groups to get a quick response.
Setting a Custom Status
1. Click your status in the control toolbar.
2. Click Set status.
The settings screen opens. The preview at the top shows how your status will look above your avatar as you make changes.
3. Enter your message.
- Messages can be up to 50 characters. Line breaks aren't reflected in the message.
- Click the message field to see your last 5 messages and reuse one of them.
4. Choose a bubble style.
The default is Normal.
| Hidden | No bubble appears above your avatar. Your message is still visible in places like the user list. | |
| Normal | Shows a white bubble. Good for everyday updates, like what you're working on or where you'll be. Note that a message is required. |
|
| Warning | Shows a yellow bubble. Good for when you'd like someone to take a look or lend a hand. | |
| Urgent | Shows a red bubble. Good for when you need help right away. |
If you choose Warning or Urgent without entering a message, only the hand icon appears.

5. Choose whether to send a notification (optional).
If you select Yes, the users and groups you choose will get a notification with a sound.
6. Choose who to notify.
If you chose to send a notification, specify the recipients here. Pick users or mention groups from the dropdown menu, or type @ to search.

7. Click Save.
Where Your Custom Status Appears
Once you've set a custom status, other people in your space can see it in these places.
| The bubble above your avatar |
Appears when you choose Normal, Warning, or Urgent as your bubble style. Hover over the bubble to read the full message. |
| User list |
Your message appears under your name. If you're away, your away note appears instead. And if you've set up calendar and status sync, your calendar information takes priority. |
| Control toolbar | Your message appears under your own name. If you haven't set a message, your current status appears instead. |
Editing or Removing a Custom Status
Hover over your own bubble and a settings icon appears. Click it to open the settings screen and make changes. If your bubble isn't displayed, follow the same steps as in Setting a Custom Status.
To remove your custom status, hover over your own bubble and click the X. This deletes the status and hides the bubble.

Responding to a Custom Status Notification
If you're one of the recipients, you can act directly from the pop-up notification you receive.
| Move closer | Moves you next to the person who sent the notification. |
| Chat | Opens the chat panel with a mention of the sender already added. |
You can change how you receive notifications in your personal notification settings.

Tips
- Anyone can set a custom status, regardless of their permissions.
- Admins control who can send notifications in space settings under Permissions. Users without this permission won't see the notification options at all.
- If you had a status memo saved in an earlier version, your bubble style defaults to Hidden.
- Save stays disabled until you make a change.
